Reinvented Software released Together 2.2 today, adding great new functionality to one of my favorite tools.
Together is my personal digital "cabinet of wonders" -- a secure storage space for everything from random scraps of information to archived copies of completed projects. There's no end to what I can stick in there: photos of books I want to read, titles of movies I want to rent, PDFs of web pages I want to read later, links to intriguing blog posts, logos I've completed in Vector Designer, slideshows I've created in Keynote, video clips, banners -- you name it.
Here's how Together saves me time and effort every day. Just this week, someone asked me to design a tent card "like that one you did for that meeting back in October." Because I toss all my finished projects into Together, finding that file was as easy as:
- launching Together
- typing "table tent"
- looking for October entries
Three seconds later, I had the file in my hot little hands, ready to be repurposed for this week's challenge.
Another application: with an eye toward the family's upcoming vacation in Buenos Aires, I've started dragging everything related to the trip -- flight plans, hotel reservations, web pages from Frommers.com, photos friends have taken -- into Together. Each time I make an entry, I tag it with a neighborhood name (Palermo Soho, for example, or Recoleta), the type of attraction (restaurant, shop, or historic sight), and days the attraction is open (MON, TUE, WED, THU, FRI).
Later, when I'm planning the trip schedule, I can use Together's lightning-fast search feature to ask, "What restaurants in Recoleta are closed on Tuesday?" or "Show me all attractions I've researched in Palermo Soho." Boom -- there it is. Sheer magic.
New features in 2.2 include automagically-generated tags (which get smarter the more you use the program) and faster launching of huge databases (just like mine). Try it ... you'll like it.
